Title: Visible Light Communications (VLC)
Sponsored by: Bob Heile, 802.15 WG Chair
Presenter(s):
EunTae Won, Samsung
Tae-Gyu Kang, ETRI
Dominic O'Brien, University of Oxford
Abstract:
This tutorial presents an overview of Visible Light Communication (VLC) and various Application scenarios. The visibility is the key feature of this communication system. With the advent of increasing amounts of LED lighting, VLC is going to be the best candidate for various communication applications which need a secured-environment or just simple convenience. Area of recent research in VLC are also presented.

Sponsored by: Stuart Kerry; 802.11 WG Chair
Presenter(s):
Michael Kipness, IEEE Staff
Christina Sahr, IEEE Staff
Abstract:
This presentation will outline the details for meeting attendees to log onto and use the IMAT Meeting Attendance Tool.
Notes:
*The 802.16 WG will not use the IMAT software at this session but will probably begin using it at Session #56 in July.
* Please note that tutorial attendees should bring their laptop so they can enroll and follow along.

Sponsored by: Pat Thaler, IEEE 802 Vice Chair
Presenter(s):
Pat Thaler, Broadcom
David Law, 3Com
Michael Kipness, IEEE Staff
Abstract:
Updates to the IEEE-SA Standards Board Bylaws and Operations Manual became effective at the beginning of 2008. This session will review the changes to keep our membership up to date
on the rules that govern our operation. Important areas including the patent policy and RevCom submittal process are affected by these changes.

Title: Security Signalling During Handovers
Sponsored by: Vivek Gupta, IEEE 802.21 WG Chair
Presenter(s):
Yoshihiro Ohba, Toshiba America Research
Marc Meylemans Intel
Subir Das, Telcordia
Abstract:
IEEE 802.21 provides Media-Independent Handover (MIH) services in order to facilitate seamless handovers between heterogeneous access technologies. It defines a function (i.e., MIH Function), a set of service access points and primitives, and a protocol (i.e., MIH protocol) between a pair of local and remote MIH Functions, allowing handover applications to deal with different access technologies in a unified manner. This presentation will summarize how to resolve security related issues during handovers with IEEE 802.21. The issue of high handover latency due to authentication and key establishment is tackled by using pre-authentication as a potential approach. The lack of an appropriate level of security in MIH protocol is tackled by using MIH entity authentication. The presentation will discuss use cases and scenarios where these mechanisms can be applied and will show how they improve handover performance.
